Jesus Excepts Gay Marriage

Jesus Accepts Gay Marriage
By Jake Kohl

According to Elton John in Time Magazine, “…Jesus would approve of marriage equality….”[1] John stating in an interview that, “If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him … saying this could not happen,”[2] and then defending his position by stating, “He [Jesus] was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together, and that is what the church should be about.”[3] This belief and radical statement has become a more and more common belief as well as being accepted by a large part of society, both Christian and non-Christians alike, including different denominations who support gay marriage such as the Community of Christ, Lutherans and the Old Catholic Church to name a few.

The view that Jesus would accept gay marriage is becoming increasingly supportive within the family, schools, churches, entertainment industry and the media in general, and it is true because of the many who rally in support of equal rights including many Christians and religious leaders alike. As one proponent (Christian) of gay marriage stated concerning gay marriage and the Christian faith in our era, “It was a time when everyone was supposed to evolve….”[4] This belief has impacted both secular and religious realms because scripture has either been twisted or eliminated to conform to this particular sin. As more and more denominations accept and/or encourage this sin as acceptable behavior approved by God, then we will continue to fall as a nation and people. We call evil good and good evil – which is the moral norm.

The fallacies of this belief are refuted by looking into scripture and seeing that Jesus Himself upheld the moral law in the Old Testament which included sexual immorality. His statement that he didn’t come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it[5] is valid even today. Jesus wouldn’t and has never condoned gay marriage or any other sin. Rather, “Jesus condemned "all" sexual activity outside of marriage between a man and woman when He said, "Out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornicators…these defile a man (Matthew 15:19).”[6]
